A multipurpose treatment

At Pravan, we’re focused on bringing constant innovation to our patients. And that's why we brought EMSELLA, an innovative machine that provides non-invasive electromagnetic stimulation of pelvic floor musculature using High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) to rehabilitate weak pelvic muscles and restore neuromuscular control for treating females’ and males’ urinary incontinence. The device allows you to perform over 11,000 supramaximal contractions in 28-minute sessions.

What is the pelvic floor, and what's its function?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support the pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus or prostate, and rectum. Not that surprisingly, these muscles play a crucial role in sexual health as they contribute to sexual arousal, support sexual function, and provide pleasure during sexual activity. So when these muscles are not strong, your sexual health can be impacted negatively.

If this is your case and you’re experiencing decreased sexual function, your physician may recommend several lifestyle changes to optimize sexual function, such as improving diet and exercise habits, medications, counseling, hormone therapy, or simpler methods like pelvic floor muscle exercises.

While methods, such as medication or hormone therapy, may be effective in optimizing or improving sexual health, they may have more side effects or may not address the underlying cause of sexual dysfunction. Pelvic floor muscle exercises, on the other hand, target the specific muscles that are involved in sexual function and can provide long-term benefits with minimal side effects.

Results from a study published by the journal “Sexual and Relationship Therapy” in 2010 showed that women who performed exercises to strengthen these muscles had increased sexual desire and satisfaction compared to those who didn’t. Similarly, a 2015 study published by the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that men who strengthened their pelvic floor had improved erectile function and sexual satisfaction.

So, how can you strengthen your pelvic floor muscles?

Pretty much anyone who’s ever watched Sex and the City knows about Kegel exercises from that iconic Carrie and Samantha scene ;) Kegel’s are one of the most recommended exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles due to how effective and safe they are. Their effectiveness depends on doing them regularly and correctly, which could be challenging for some.

Fortunately, there are other treatments you can explore to strengthen your pelvic floor faster. For example, EMSELLA is an alternative primarily used to treat urinary incontinence and other pelvic floor disorders. Many patients who have done sessions of the treatment report that one of the benefits is improved sexual functions. Specifically, because the device performs supramaximal muscle contractions for you that are equivalent to 11,000 Kegels during a single session of 30 minutes. With its targeted electromagnetic technology, EMSELLA makes sure to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles correctly and make them stronger.

How EMSELLA improves sexual function

One of the main ways that EMSELLA can improve sexual function is by increasing blood flow to the genital area. The pelvic floor muscles help to support and control the blood vessels in the genital area, and when these muscles are weak, blood flow can be reduced.

Several female patients at Pravan that have done the treatment report that it has improved vaginal tightness and lubrication. Increased blood flow to the genital area can help to stimulate natural lubrication, which can make sexual activity more comfortable and pleasurable.

When it comes to male patients, some report experiencing longer-lasting erections. Finally, EMSELLA helps improve sexual function by reducing urinary incontinence and the embarrassment and anxiety it can cause when it comes to intimacy.

While the benefits of EMSELLA for sexual function are still being studied, more and more patients are reporting improvements in sexual health and satisfaction after treatment every day. It's important to note that EMSELLA is not a replacement for other sexual health treatments or therapies, and it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the best treatment options for any sexual health concerns.
