When it comes to kids, things can happen in a blink of an eye. They might be peacefully playing at one moment, and in the next, you’re running to the emergency room after a fall or because there’s a sudden fever. All parents want to avoid the emergency room, especially in Puerto Rico. Asides from the risk of catching a bug in the hospital, the long waits can be a challenge, especially with small children.
But, alas, there’s a new alternative when it comes to handling urgent care situations. We are happy to introduce Pravan Kids Urgent Care. At Pravan Kids, your children get access to urgent care services Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. And yes, they are included in their membership as new issue appointments.
How it works
Our urgent care services assist with acute illnesses or injuries that aren’t life-threatening but still require professional attention to avoid complications if they are not treated for more than 24 hours after symptoms start.
Urgent Care requests Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, are covered by your membership. Additional fees might be applicable if medical attention is needed after hours or on holidays.
During Regular Working Hours
Requesting our pediatric urgent care services is simple. During working hours, write via Spruce and make sure to describe your child’s symptoms thoroughly; feel free to add pictures or videos so we can better evaluate their condition. Your nurse will immediately start a triage with questions that will help clear out risks and better handle care. Depending on the case, we’ll offer you a telemedicine appointment. In some cases, an in-person evaluation and treatment will be required, and our team will make sure to help you coordinate the appointment. Regular hours go from Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
After-hours and Holiday Requests
Urgent situations have no working schedule, so when they come up after hours or during a holiday, this is how you’ll request Urgent Care Services:
-
- Monday through Friday: reach out through Spruce until 5:30 pm. From 5:30 pm until 8:30 am, call 787-339-2639. Our on-call physicians will reach out the next day to assist you. When you call, make sure to follow the instructions on the phone and accept all applicable charges.
- Saturdays: reach out through Spruce until 4:00 pm and call 787-339-2639.

Note: Though we have a team of emergency physicians attending urgent care services, there may be a moment in which they’re assisting other patients, which is why it’s important to note that these services are subject to availability and age*. Urgent care services aren’t a substitute for emergency services. If you feel your child’s life is at risk, contact 9-1-1.
Emergencies VS Urgencies:
That is the Question
After reading the basics of our Pravan Kids Urgent Care Services, you might wonder what’s the difference between an emergency and an urgency. An emergency is considered a moment when your child’s life is at risk, such as difficulty breathing, allergic reactions, or asthma attacks. In an emergency, we will send you to the closest ER or advise you to call 9-1-1.
On the other hand, an urgency is when your child requires medical attention, but their life isn’t in danger. We know this distinction can be overwhelming, so don’t worry; our team will help you understand if you’re not sure if the issue is an emergency or an urgency.
What could be considered an urgent care situation?
- It’s a beach day playdate! Your child plays in the sand and decides to jump in the water to wash their hands while you’re preparing a snack. Out of the blue, you hear a sharp cry and see your child crying because they can’t walk after stepping on a sea urchin. You don’t know what to do as there are many spikes on their feet. Your fastest option? Just write through Spruce or call us to set you up for an appointment.
- It’s Friday morning, and your child woke up vomiting and has been rejecting foods since the night before. You’re worried about dehydration or what may come up next. All you have to do is write through Spruce, and we’ll assist you.
- Your child woke up with a cough, some wheezing, and other flu-like symptoms. They have a history of asthma, and you’re worried about leaving them untreated as it’s been a few days with the cough, and it’s starting to be challenging for your child. You can write through Spruce or call, and we’ll schedule you for a telemedicine appointment. If indicated, the physician will make sure to provide you with any prescriptions your child needs.
Whether in person or over telemedicine, there’s so much our urgent care services can help you manage without walking into an emergency room.

*Urgent Care Services for Minors
Please note that our urgent care services for minors depend on patient age, condition severity, and physician availability. For infants, seek specialized pediatric care. Our facility handles non-life-threatening conditions, but severe cases may require transfer to an emergency room. Call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies.
Physician availability may impact treatment options. We may refer your child to an alternative facility if needed. Our team strives to provide the best care, but the above factors may affect service levels. Contact our staff for further information.
